Each day I am visitingneighborhoods throughout the Newtown-Yardley area, listening to yourconcerns and offering my platform for providing help at home and changein Harrisburg. 

I am honored by the fact that so many peopleare willing to take the time to talk to me about the issues that areaffecting our communities. 

I hope to visit every neighborhood in the district before Election Day on November 4th.

About Steve


Like many of us, the events of September 11thhad a profound effect on Steve Santarsiero. From his office windowSteve bore witness to the attack. It was at that moment that Stevevowed not to focus on the tragedy, but reaffirm his commitment to whatour nation stands for. He left his successful legal profession tobecome a local school teacher.

Shortly thereafter, Steve was called to action on behalf of his local community.

In 2002,Steve became a leader in the grassroots movement to stop the proposedbig-box store shopping center on the Matrix property in LowerMakefield, serving as Chairman of Residents Against Matrix. His actionsmade a difference. Matrix was stopped.

Elected Lower Makefield Supervisor in 2003

In 2003, Steve Santarsiero was elected to the Lower Makefield Boardof Supervisors with over 55% of the vote. Being the only Democrat onthe Board, Steve quickly became a leader who reached across party linesto focus on getting the job done. In 2005 he was the first electedofficial in Southeastern Pennsylvania to propose a landmark lawprohibiting convicted sex offenders from living within 2,500 feet ofareas where children typically congregate. The year before, he proposedand organized the Southeastern Bucks League of Municipalities, anorganization made up of the representatives of over 10 towns inSoutheastern Bucks that comes together several times a year to discussregional issues, share ideas and work to resolve problems between towns.

As Board Chairman in 2006, Steve Steers a New Course

In 2006, Steve became part of the new Democratic majority on theBoard of Supervisors. As Chairman of the new Board, he spearheaded abold new plan for Lower Makefield that included:

  • The passage of a national-award-winning Low Impact DevelopmentOrdinance to control development and mitigate flooding caused by badplanning,
  • The preparation of an open space inventory to maximize the Township’s ability to preserve remaining open lands,
  • The creation of a new Citizens Traffic Commission to help improve traffic problems in the township,
  • Making local government more open by televising township meetings,conducting interviews for township boards and commissions in public,and providing greater access to the Board by creating township phonenumbers and e-mail addresses for all supervisors,
  • Expanding the Environmental Advisory Council and granting it power to review land use proposals,
  • Supporting local farmers with a new farmers market, and
  • Proposing township celebrations, such as Community Pride Day, topromote a sense of community and identity as Lower Makefield residents.

A Committed Environmentalist

Steve’s environmental leadership is well known, earning him theendorsement of the Sierra Club in a past election. In 2007 he proposedand chaired the first regional conference on global warming and hasbeen a leader among local leaders in proposing ways to cut carbonemissions by local government and homeowners and supporting themandatory use of green building techniques.

For these and his other accomplishments, the BucksCounty Courier Times has called Steve Santarsiero a “rising star” amongelected officials.

Education and Family

Steve Santarsiero is a graduate of the University of PennsylvaniaLaw School; Tufts University, where he received his B.A.; and HolyFamily University, where he received his M.Ed. Since leaving thepractice of law to become a teacher, Steve has been teaching socialstudies at Bensalem High School. He lives with his wife, Ronni, andtheir children, Nancy, 10, Billy, 8, and Johnny, 4, in Lower Makefield,where he helps coach youth baseball. His wife, Ronni, is a lawyer anda Girl Scout troop leader.
